Pine Tree Hospice publishes cookbook

DOVER-FOXCROFT - Pine Tree Hospice has published a 140-page cookbook featuring recipes of all kinds from Hospice volunteers, families and friends, as well as contributions from some really "Big Names."

The book's "Big Name Cooking" section has recipes from author Stephen King, U.S. Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins, Congressman Mike Michaud, Maine's First Lady, Karen Baldacci, State Senators Paul Davis and Steve Stanley, State Rep. Jim Annis and others.

The book is now on sale for $10 at WDME radio station and the Pine Tree Hospice office at Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft, as well as from Hospice board members. Books will be sold at the Chamber of Commerce Expo in Guilford on April 2 and 3, and at the annual Hospice Variety Show scheduled for April 30 at Foxcroft Academy. Mail order sales are available by sending $10, plus $4 for shipping and handling, to Pine Tree Hospice, 895 West Main St., Dover-Foxcroft, ME 04426.

All proceeds from sales of the cookbook will support Pine Tree Hospice, which is a nonprofit community organization providing free, non-medical services to dying individuals and their families in the Penquis region.

The book is dedicated to Ethel Ayres of Dover-Foxcroft, one of three charter members of Hospice and a volunteer since its founding in 1986.

Over 300 recipes were submitted to the cookbook by Hospice volunteers and community members. Recipes are organized in sections for appetizers, relishes and pickles; soups, salads and sauces; meats and main dishes; vegetables; breads, rolls and pastries; cakes, cookies and desserts; and beverages, microwave and miscellaneous.
